Last month our STEM team exhibited at the ‘Get Up to Speed with STEM’ event, delivered by Workwise, at Magna Science Adventure Centre. Get up to Speed with STEM is an annual careers showcase event which aims to introduce, inform and inspire students, parents and teachers about the world of work in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing (STEM) sectors.
Now in its 15th year, the event provides employers with a platform to exhibit their business, while educators can learn about the diverse career prospects available for young people, establish connections with employers, and link the curriculum to real-world experiences. Through interactive activities, the event allows young people to engage directly with employers and professionals in the industry, including apprentices and graduates.
The STEM team valued this opportunity to interact with employers committed to addressing the skills gap in STEM-related industries, as well as to connect with schools and their students to foster inspiration and encourage pursuit of STEM careers.
For over a decade the 'Get Up to Speed with STEM' event has been instrumental in promoting STEM-related career opportunities to more than 44,000 young individuals, educators, and families from the Sheffield City Region and beyond. The event featured dynamic exhibits from local and national employers, displaying their businesses, industries, and employment opportunities, making the two-day event very informative.
