The STEM Awards 2025 were held last Friday in Newcastle, hosted by the STEM Hub, delivered by RTC North. The evening celebrated the exceptional achievements of individuals, schools and organisations across the Northern region who are dedicated to inspiring the next generation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This year's event recognised the commitment and innovation of those whose efforts continue to shape the future of STEM education and opportunities across the region.
Guests were warmly welcomed by a choir performance by Ryton Singers before the evening was led by local comedian Steffen Peddie, whose energy and humour added an extra spark to the celebrations. The event brought together over 230 attendees, representing more than 40 companies from across the North East, and Yorkshire and Humber.
An emotional video set the tone for an inspiring evening. Teachers emphasised the importance of STEM Ambassadors visiting schools to engage with young people. They highlighted how these interactions can inspire students, build their confidence and showcase the wide range of opportunities available to them in STEM fields. Students also shared their own stories, describing the powerful influence ambassadors have had on them and the opportunities and confidence they’ve gained through these experiences.
The night’s honours began with the STEM Ambassador Award, presented to Ian Green followed by the CyberFirst Ambassador Awards which were handed to Jess Nadin and Zeshan Sattar. Next-Gen STEM Awards were presented to Jack Lowe and Morgan Bain. STEM Educator Awards were handed to Georgina Dye and Elizabeth Bestall, and the Climate Ambassador Award was handed to Steve Denniss. The STEM Icon Award was presented to Tamara Robinson and the STEMPact Award was handed to Andrew Walker.

“The STEM Awards shine a spotlight on the incredible dedication and creativity that drive progress in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It’s inspiring to see so many individuals and organisations working together to open doors for young people and create opportunities that will shape the future. Celebrating these achievements reminds us of the power of collaboration and the positive impact it has on our communities.”
The night concluded with a shared sense of pride and inspiration. These awards celebrate and highlight the collective commitment to empowering young people in STEM. With continued support from ambassadors, we look forward to building on this year’s success.
